Banned Book Week is Upon Us!

While I was driving home from work Friday afternoon I heard something unusual and exciting.

The Outside The Loop radio show came on and gave what I thought was a terrific intro about the importance of freedom of expression, and intellectual freedom in general.

The intro was followed by a short interview with Judith Krug. Judith Krug is Director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom at the ALA.

This was featured to gear everybody up for Banned Books Week!

Please check out Outside the Loop Radio, and be sure to subscribe to their RSS feed.

Also, if you haven’t already, the ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom’s Banned Books Web site is important to check out as well.

A great post! I love how you included the podcast that you heard and I agree with you that it was a great podcast discussing banned books week. I think it’s great that radio is presenting this important topic to the public!

This is so cool. Not only have you let me in on this interesting discussion on banned books during the week in question, but you’ve used one of the 2.0 tools to do it.
The actual discussion is very interesting because to be honest, I am sometimes torn about this issue. There are some books that I wish had not been written. For example, there is a series that gives very explicit details about how to commit a murder and one of the books was actually used to aid in such an act. But in listening to the radio interview helped me to think about how we really need to have the option to govern ourselves and choose not to do the unthinkable. Anyway, thanks.
